YRC Cuts Eastern U.S. Transit Times
YRC
Worldwide expects service enhancements launched at three operating companies in
June and July to cut transit times in the eastern half of the United States.
Network
optimizations at Yellow Transportation, Roadway and USF Holland allow YRC to
improve next-day and second-day service in 30,000 lanes ant to improve service
by at least one day for more than 15 percent of shipments, the company said in a
statement.
Yellow
Transportation kicked off its changes in 155 service centers on July 6,
affecting 15,000 lanes. Account executives met with drivers in local service
centers on Monday morning, making sure they were fully informed and had a good
supply of maps for customers.
"As they
make their deliveries, drivers will be asking for new Velocity business from
customers while explaining the benefits of our new improved network," said Buddy
Reeves, director of sales in the St. Louis area.
USF
Holland launched the changes on June 2; Roadway implements the changes on July
14.
"By
designing networks with fewer miles, we can offer increased predictability and
more precise delivery options to our customers. The lanes involve fewer handoffs
-- and fewer touches mean faster and more reliable deliveries," said Mike Smid,
president and CEO of YRC North American Transportation.
"More
direct lanes save fuel as well as time," by reducing mileage, said
Smid.
